This is My Humanities Story that Changed Me

This year is my second year in college and so far it is going swell. There has been some struggles from time to time but they were all resolved over time and right now I feel I am at the best spot and it can only get better. Now I am not much of a reader, never really have been, so really all the books I read are for classes. So if you go to CRC or plan on going to CRC here are some books you will read in some specific classes.

Racial and Ethnic Groups,
13th Edition
Marcelo's Books Throughout The Year:

Richard T. Schaefer, DePaul Univeristy. Racial and Ethnic Groups, 13th Edition, 2012.

  • Well I read this book for my Race/Ethnic/Inequal in the US class or SOC 321 in CRC. Just really skimmed through the pages and copied down the definitions for any test coming up. But don't let that discredit you from taking this class, the professor is absolutely amazing and the topics in this class are very very mind opening.
X. Kennedy, Dana Gioia. Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, Drama, and Writing, Compact Edition, MLA Update Edition 8th Edition, 2016.
  • This is a book I read bits and pieces of because of assignments from my professor who was really tough. Not going to lie there are some really great stories in this book just don't take this class, ENGWR 301, with my professor.
  • Not really a book title like the last ones but this is the book I am reading for my astronomy class, ASTR 300 which the book is fully online so yay and it is really interesting just looking for answers in the book is really really hard.
Allen J. Christenson, Popol Vuh. 2007.
The Popol Vuh
  • This link will send you to the Popol Vuh which you can read online, yay. Word of warning the actually story starts on page 48 you can read before that but the whole story begins there. This book was a really fun book to read as it was funny and interesting. The mini stories in the story were so good and understanding some things made it ten times better. This is the first book I read from my Humanities class, HUM 331, awesome class and an even more awesome professor AKA Maureen Moore. I did another blog about this book as well so go and read that for more of my thoughts.
Seth M. Holmes, Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies: Migrant Farmworkers in the United States, 2013
  • I also did a different blog about this book and may I say that this book is one of the most mind opening books I have ever read. This is the second book I read because of my Humanities class, you should totally take it :). Anyway this showed how other people are in the world, it showed their struggles, their pain, everything and it was so emotional and mind opening. Definitely recommend reading this as it will surely open your mind and heart.
In this Humanities class that I am taking the professor had us make a project with a group and it was really fun for me and my group member. We both did even amounts of work, like 6 hours each, it was pretty easy especially the way the professor spaced out some due dates for parts of it. I really liked looking up parts for the chapter 6 slides because I knew about art institutions going into prison and helping the prisoners rehabilitate. I knew about it just because of one specific episode in ICarly where Spencer goes to prison to teach inmates how to sculp pretty funny but still informative. This project looked like a lot at first but then as I started doing it, it became easier and easier.

That brings me to my next topic about how my whole Humanitites class journey was. In the very first week of this class I was scared of all this work that was going to be needed to be done by me and also seeing that I had to write like 3 to 4 paragraphs scared me a little but then I got better and faster at typing so I got less scared. I expected to have the same mindset and workset as I did with another class I had with a similar structure as this Humanities class, but I got lazy and was sometimes crunched with time. I did all the work in the end earlier than needed but it was still great and I developed this whole new typing voice trying to connect my thoughts to my readers and try to make them laugh. I really tried to put my whole personality into these blogs and homework assignments to show that this COVID didn't just cause text over boring text readings but show that there are bright sides in this whole pandemic.

Open arms in order to give you guys hugs :)
Reaching this final week has been a struggle and also a blast, growing my skills and this typing voice personality I put into my blogs to really put my thoughts out there. I didn't know much about this class but this class interested me by being a Latin American Humanities class and me being Latin and thinking "oh yeah learn more about my people lets go," which turned out to be true and it hurt to learn some stuff but I am happy to learn that and know there is a need to help others (my brain). I think Humanities is learning about one another through culture, literature, arts, and many other things that give a civilization life. Humanitites is a broad aspect of things that condense to just learning about one another and seeing how most cultures work. I am happy I took this class because it grew me as a writer and as a person to open my mind, I am a bit hurt to see it end but all good things must come to an end and to that I say have a good day/afternoon/night and stay safe I send hugs to all who are reading this stay great.
